What do you think of Killing Girls ?

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Dear David:

I just downloaded and watched your movie “Killing Girls” and I wanted to thank you for making it. I feel so sorry that I didn’t know what Russian girls go through. I was so moved by the statistics and the
stories of each girl that you featured. Isn’t it sad that we western women don’t realize how blessed and fortunate we are? To not have to face this decision, so many times throughout life, is such a blessing and we don’t even know it. So, I said all of that to say that I loved the movie.
I can only imagine how difficult it must have been to film this movie. The still images were amazing. I was impressed to see, in the credits, that you took those pictures!
I do agree that it IS a story of hope. It is like the movie was trying to get across…that education is what is lacking. And, if people don’t watch this movie, then they will always be ignorant of what is happening. Well, at least I felt this was the point…people need to be informed. Sex education, to know your own body, to be aware of what your children are up to, etc. I’m going to advise all of my friends and family to watch this movie! ;)

I can’t wait to watch your next film David! :) Best wishes for the future.

Sincerely,
Jenny Fletcher

The Blind leading the Blind

I must admit I have been rather irritated by the way all the Pro Life blogs and links are using my film as their reason for life!.Not one word from Pro Choice? All they seem to do is copy from this site, copy what all the others have done, watch the trailer NOT THE FILM! and tell everybody how bad the film is not showing graphic images of dead babies, but still saying “(WARNING: The trailer contains very graphic nudity and is not suitable for young audiences)” How do they know what is in the film. Honestly if anyone wants to have an opinion about my film then BUY IT!, don’t just run like sheep after all the other sheep.
I am a very serious documentary film maker making a very important document about Russia.
One thing is really good, everybody will be very surprised when they watch the movie, with a tear of happiness in their eye at the end.
Russia is a great country, the problem is changes have come too fast and then the weakest must take the consequences.
So all you TRUE Pro Lifers, buy Killing Girls and then tell me your opinion.

Respecting everybody’s right to have an opinion

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

I totally respect people with such a burning goal be it pro life or pro choice. They all make
a difference, make us think!
As an independent film maker I feel exactly the same.
I think we are all born on this world to help others, this is our meaning to life.
My uncle was a Methodist minister, we always had long talks about about
religion. As a documentary photographer and film maker, I have always found religion a powerful and intriguing group to document.
I was born in Belfast Northern Ireland, religion was always used as a excuse for murder etc.
Everybody around the world had the answer to the troubles in Northern
Ireland, but finding a solution was never easy!, nothing is simple.
Nobody in my film is bad, it is the “system” the state that needs to change.
Was I supposed to condemn Nastja who was raped, her father an alcoholic,
her mother dying of cancer. No I went over to her, held her hand and tried
what I could do to show her understanding and some caring.
Films cost a fortune to make, I got paid next to nothing to make Killing
girls. but it was a film of principle. Pro Life and Pro Choice fight like
cat and dog. I hate fighting, I made a film both Pro’s! and both groups
can agree this is not abortion it is child birth these girls have to go through, they all go through
labour and it is not right even I can agree with that, but what should these girls do, they do not
have the choices you and I have in rich western countries. What do we do
with ALL the babies in the film ( babies unit ) they all had aids, they
are abandoned so by Russian law they are not allowed to be adopted and no
one will take them.

Everybody needs to watch the film then it is possible to say what is right or wrong.

What is right and what is wrong?

I must admit, I am a little shocked with some of the response I get on my film. There seems to be little respect or thought for the girls and doctors in my film, I am told over and over again, that I have to show graphic pictures of these girls aborting. WHY? This would have shown a total lack of respect.
I had 100% respect from the hospital staff and the girls I filmed. I am not working for either Pro Life or Pro Choice.
We have a girl who had been raped, should we condemn her or understand her? I will never condemn her, we have a ward full of abandoned babies, all of them with AIDS, nobody will ever have them. What should we do? I feel for the first time we are showing the truth about this really sad subject. I am very proud of what both Anna Sirota and myself have achieved. Just think what we had to go through. We have made a difference, we have made an important document where you decide what is right or wrong.
I can say I was put on this world to help others. I hope Killing Girls will make everybody think…

David
